This is a card that I made for the “Clean and Simple Cards 3” class I signed up for. The first day was a lesson on faux effects, and I decided that since I love that inlay look, I should give it a shot with a few die cuts.
Well, it ended up being *one* die cut… but stamping the flowers was so much fun!
I started with a heavyweight white card stock base and with a piece of scrap paper off to the side, I used a second generation stamping technique to stamp the flowers in Pale Tomato, Soft Stone, and Tide Pool. I kind of wanted them to look a little like watercolor without the water, partly because of the style of the flower, but mostly because I don’t like cleaning up after myself 🙂
I took the ‘thanks’ die from Simon Says Stamp and cut it from the front of the card, and also from a scrap of Bazzill card stock (the color name is Kachina) that I had lying around.
Since I make cards for Operation Write Home from time to time, I precut a huge stack of card liners awhile back from a cheapie white card stock from OfficeMax. I used one of those to create the backing for the inlay by coating it with my tape gun, sticking it to the inside of the card behind where I wanted the die cut word to go, tapping the teal ‘thanks’ into place and then replacing all the little white pieces in the loops of the word.
The rest of the sentiment on the card is also from a Simon Says stamp set called “Thanks” which came with the die as a set. I stamped that one in Soft Stone as well, but I didn’t stamp off the ink first so it would be dark enough to show up alongside the flowers.
A few dabs with my orange Wink of Stella brush in the pinkish flowers and I was done! I tell ya, it’s really hard not to just keep going and end up losing focus. Do you think it needs sequins? Yeah, it needs sequins…
